Hindsight is 20-20

So, we've spent a big chunk of time creating and attempting to use a basic pin-hole camera. As many of you noted in your blogs the purpose of the project was to give you a basis for understanding all cameras. Any camera, no matter how complex comes down to ... a light tight box, a hole that lets light in, a shutter to block that hole and open on demand, and something to capture the light/image.

Spend a few minutes and answer the following.

1. Was this a useful project? Why or why not?
2. Would you recommend this project to be used for next year's class?
3. What would you recommend being done differently to make the project more useful?
4. Would you like time to try again, or are you "done with pin-holes"?

I think this was definitely a good exercise, both because it teaches us some basics about how cameras work, and also because trends like pinhole and lomo photography are coming back into use.
I would definitely recommend doing the project again, but I can't think of anything that should be changed.
I'll definitely attempt another pinhole on my own, but class wise I'd definitely like to move on and do some digital work.

Yes it was because when I want to take a picture of something and I don't have a camera I could use this method in which I won't probably do. Yes I think so. They need to know what it takes in order to take a successful picture. Nothing really I think that it was helpful. I liked doing the project but no I would not like to spend anymore time on pinhole cameras.

This was a useful project because now I have a good understanding about a camera when I didn't really know the components of a camera. I would definitely recommend this project for next year but I think access to a dark room would be useful. I think trying again would be fun but I don't think the results would be any better.

I really liked this assignment since I'm very interested in taking pictures the 'olde' style. I think this will help me look at more complex cameras. Personally, I think that this project should be continued to work out the kinks in the cameras. Also, using this project next year will help future students 'get' the concept of cameras.

I think this was a good exercise, mostly because it teaches us some basics about how cameras work, and because trends like pinhole photography are coming back into use.
I would definitely recommend doing the project again and again and again... but I can't think of anything that should be changed... yet

1. Yes it was a useful assignment because we got to start at the basics.
2. Yes it is fun to see if you can create a camera out of random stuff at your house and its fun.
3. Nothing much needs to change.
4. Im ready to move on to other stuff...so yes I am "done with Pinholes."

I think that this project gave us a basic understanding of how a camera works. I would recommend this project next year especially if many students don't know much about cameras.Have one set of directions to follow. And I think its time to move on from pinhole cameras.

1. Yes this was helpful because it helped me understand how cameras worked and how lighting and exposure affects the picture
2. Yes I would but let them take more pictures with the pinholes and let them use the dark room!
3. Using the dark room
4. I'm done with pinholes thanks!

I thought the whole pinhole camera thing was really interesting. I had never even heard of a pinhole camera until this class! I think it's definitely a good project, and this project should be done again! Although, I want to get to using digital cameras!

it is a good idea to study them but i dont think the making of the camera wasnt the best use of time. I AM DONE WITH THE PIN HOLE THINGY

Yes this was a useful and fun project that helped us understand how cameras worked. No i would not recomend this project for next years class. More time spent taking pictures. Yes i think it would be kinda cool to try again but i think we should move on.

it gave us time to know how to make our own camera and how to use it better and the basic's of the camera yea i would recomend this project for next year cause its a basic training tool i don't know what i would have done to make it a bit different and yea im done with the pin hole camera

Yes I think it was a useful project because it taught me alot about how cameras work and I would recommend it for next year's class. I think that if you do this project again, what I would do differently is have more time to take pictures and more instructions on how to make a better pinhole camera. I think that I am done with the pinhole cameras.

This was a very useful project to do. I did not realize that a camera could actualy be made of such basic materials. I would recommend this project to be used for next year's class, but maybe have some changes, such as what the photo paper is wrapped in. Also, maybe have the exposure time specified so more people are successful in taking the cameras. I think pinhole cameras are interesting, but I don't want to use them anymore because I want to use digital cameras please.

Does the light in the pin hole camera trace out the object being shot?

Yes I think this was a useful project and it was also a lot of fun. Because now we know how to make a pinohle camera. Yes I would because I think it was a great idea and a good way to kick off the class. I dont think anything should be changed because if your camera doesnt work then you can still get the learning expirence. I think that it would be cool to do this same project at the end of the class so we can use what we learned.

1) Yes Mr. Hiller the project was very useful because iI really didn't know that you could make a camera out of a bow!! I actually might make one on my freetime...lol but probably not!!
2)Yes, it was kinda interesting and fun to do rather then just sit around not doing hands-on things!!
3)Learning more about it before doing it.
4)I think im pin-holed out to be honest
